          <bold>Background</bold>
        </p>
        <p>The genus <italic>Lilium </italic>comprises ca. 100 species and famous byb its showy flowers. In Taiwan, four taxa were recorded in Flora of Taiwan, namely <italic>L. callosum</italic>, <italic>L. formosanum</italic>, <italic>L. speciosum</italic> var. <italic>gloriosoides</italic>, and <italic>L. longiflorum</italic> var. <italic>scabrum</italic>. </p>

          <bold>New information</bold>
        </p>
        <p>In this article, the author reported a newly recorded lily taxon, <italic>Lilium longiflorum</italic> Thunb.<italic> </italic>var. <italic>longiflorum</italic>. This variety is morphologically similar to the other two endemic taxa, <italic>L. longiflorum </italic>Thunb. var. <italic>scabrum</italic> Masam. and <italic>L. formosanum</italic> Wallace of Taiwan, and is often misidentified as such. However, <italic>L. longiflorum </italic>var. <italic>longiflorum</italic> is distinguished from them by having subglabrous stems, and tepals without purplish stripes. <italic>Lilium longiflorum </italic>var. <italic>longiflorum </italic>has only been found in the remote islands of Taiwan, such as Lanyu, Lutao, and Pengchia Islet. The conservation status of the two varieties of <italic>L. longiflorum </italic>of Taiwan was re-evaluated and assigned as near threatened (NT).</p>
