Abstract

Many original descriptions of beetles were published in Latin with specific idioms and technical terms, which are sometimes difficult to understand. On the other hand, the exact meaning of these descriptions is necessary for taxonomic and systematic research. For the 10 valid Palaearctic species of the genus Plateumaris – with the exception of the three species which were first described in English already - their original descriptions (in Latin, German, French or Russian) and the translations into English are presented here. Additionally, the translations of the first descriptions of the genus Plateumaris and of 19 synonyms are given. This concerns mainly names of synonyms or confirmed synonyms established in Geiser (2023b). A species is regarded as valid in the sense of the Catalogue of Palaearctic Chrysomelidae (Bezděk and Sekerka 2023).
