Peixoto P (2024) How can taxonomists’ work be valued? A ORCID based strategy. ARPHA Preprints. https://doi.org/10.3897/arphapreprints.e128954 |
The Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) is a number linked exclusively to researchers, enabling their unequivocal identification. Therefore, this communication proposes that taxonomists, when consulting, can increase their visibility and importance. The proposal highlights the difficulty in tracking down work in which a professional has contributed to the correct identification of species. The suggestion is to include ORCID in specific paragraphs, footnotes, or metadata of the taxonomist's articles, not as the main author, but in their advisory role when applicable. This would be a way of clearly linking the work of the taxonomist to the article in question, highlighting their contribution to the taxonomic identification process. This practice could facilitate the recognition and correct attribution of credit to professionals involved in taxonomic activities.
